Joint Press Release

The New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office, located in Taipei, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, located in Wellington, have agreed to explore the feasibility of an economic cooperation agreement between New Zealand and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu (Chinese Taipei).
 
New Zealand and Chinese Taipei are highly complementary economies.  They have a substantial trade and economic relationship.  Any future agreement would be expected to expand the economic relationship and deliver new business opportunities for both economies.
 
Both New Zealand and Chinese Taipei are members of the WTO.  If a negotiation is launched it will be conducted in accordance with WTO norms.
