Mr Mark Pearson is the Director of the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office. He assumed the role in January 2022.
Mark joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1988. He has previously been posted to New Zealand embassies in Tokyo (twice) and Seoul, serving as deputy head of mission in both locations. He has worked on regional economic and political issues in APEC and in ASEAN-related groupings including the ASEAN Regional Forum, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the East Asia Summit, and has also previously been involved in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation.
Prior to taking on this role, Mark was manager of outreach and partnerships at APEC New Zealand during New Zealand’s 2021 APEC host year, involving a wide range of engagements with business, academia and youth.
Mark speaks Japanese and Korean, and has a reading knowledge of Chinese.
Mark is married to Theresa Lo.
